The Political Cult of the Dead in Ukraine: Traditions and Dimensions from Soviet Times to Today
Conference organized by Dr. Iryna Sklokina (Lviv) and Prof. Dr. Guido Hausmann (LMU Munich) in co-operation with the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies, July 9-11, 2015 in Munich.
Historical research on the political cult of the dead investigates primarily practices of veneration and public commemoration of political leaders and soldiers, less of the civilian population. Modern societies, nations and their public expect to obtain an answer to the question why “their” soldiers have fallen.
The specifics of the political cult of the dead in the Ukraine, its traditions and dimensions from Soviet times to today, will be discussed from different perspectives in this conference.
